DAY 1

Begin your adventure in Porto Novo, the main port of Sant’Antão, where the journey starts with a scenic drive into the island’s lush interior. The road winds through green valleys, steep hills, and small villages, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and glimpses of everyday life on the island.

Your first stop is Altomira, a traditional mountain village perched above the valleys. Here, you can walk among stone houses, terraced fields, and small gardens, observing locals at work and feeling the slow, authentic rhythm of rural Sant’Antão. It’s a perfect place to take photos, breathe the fresh mountain air, and connect with the island’s culture.

From Altomira, continue to Ponta do Sol, a scenic coastal town known for its dramatic cliffs and panoramic ocean views. This stop allows for a brief rest, photo opportunities, and a taste of the vibrant coastal life before heading inland to your final destination.

The journey then continues to Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, a charming village nestled between hills and mountains. This village offers a glimpse into authentic island life: white houses with corrugated roofs, small cultivated plots, and friendly locals who continue centuries-old traditions. Here, enjoy a traditional lunch made with fresh local vegetables, manioc, cheeses, and tropical fruits, prepared with warmth and hospitality.

After lunch, embark on a 2.5-hour trek to the Tarrafal Waterfalls, one of Sant’Antão’s hidden gems. The trail winds through eucalyptus and palm forests, sparkling streams, and deep valleys, leading to the waterfalls framed by lush vegetation and smooth rocks. The sound of cascading water and the surrounding nature make this a magical and rejuvenating experience.

DAY 2

Continue the adventure with a 14 km coastal trek along Sant’Antão’s rugged shoreline, from Tarrafal to Monte Trigo. The path offers stunning ocean views, small villages, cultivated terraces, and quiet beaches, immersing you in the island’s wild beauty. Montitrigo itself is a peaceful village where life moves slowly, allowing you to witness authentic island life and connect with the local community.

The journey concludes with a 50-minute boat ride back to Porto Novo, crossing the shimmering waters while reflecting on two days filled with adventure, culture, and the natural wonders of Sant’Antão. This is an experience that combines trekking, village life, waterfalls, and coastal beauty, perfect for travelers seeking an authentic and unforgettable journey.
